Batik is an Indonesian typical patterned fabric, handwritten with a traditional instrument called canting. Batik Papua is known for its bright colors. Whereas, batik in Indonesia is always synonymous with soft color and tend to be dark. However, this does not seem to apply to this unique Papua batik because the colors used oftenly are bright colors such as red, green, and yellow.

Most of this batik has typical motif such as panels, birds of paradise, Asmat tribe and the people of Papua. In addition, the fabric used also has a good quality. However, when compared with the batik in Indonesia in general, the price of batik from Papua tends to be more expensive.

Batik Papua is divided into two types of batik, the ordinary type and Prada type. Prada Batik is batik with gold stripes motif. The motives that are used are very diverse and distinctive. Meanwhile, ordinary batik is batik without gold stripes.

In terms of price, Prada Batik is more expensive than the ordinary ones because it uses silk fabric. The people of Papua sometimes make shantung fabric to create unique Papua batik. This fabric is similar to a tissue fabric, silk, and cotton.
